My freshman year began on the sprawling campus of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. As a sustainable agriculture major, I took a number of courses involving both hands-on and classroom work, enjoying what felt like a small community amid an often overwhelmingly large student population. Yet a long-held passion for healthcare resurfaced after receiving my certification as an Emergency Medical Technician, and I began to search for nursing programs to transfer into. Ultimately, I chose the University of New England, and couldn’t have been happier with the outcome. My first semester as a nursing student ended with my receiving a 4.0 GPA and the Kappa Zeta at-Large Chapter Essentials of Nursing Scholarship.
